Hi! This is Group Travel Host Charlie Adams with a look back at the June 2010 trip to Cape Cod and Boston. Trip Manager Sherrill Lee did another masterful job managing the trip. Many of us, including myself, had not been to Boston, and loved experiencing the history. Boston was a vibrant city, a clean city, and filled with history. Walking the Freedom Trail was so exciting. We had a terrific group of travellers (photo below). We had folks from South Bend, Elkhart, Hanna, LaPorte, Mishawaka, New Carlisle, Warsaw, Sturgis, MI, and St. Joseph, MI.

The Old Town Trolley excursion was a great way to see the city of Boston and all of its history. Travellers could get off and on when they wanted to throughout the day. We were able to go Downtown, to Beacon Hill, Back Bay, the Theater District and the Waterfront District. We were able to see where Samuel Adams, James Otis, and other revolutionary leaders motivated fellow colonials to fight for liberty.
Visiting the Old North Church and seeing Paul Revere's home was special. A guide told us ol' Paul had 16 children. He had 8 by his first wife. When she died, he had 8 by his second wife. The guide said Paul had several jobs. No wonder! He had a lot of mouths to feed!
I found Bunker Hill to be very inspirational. That was a pivotal battle in the Revolutionary War. Our men may not have won it, but it truly was a moral victory as the British had far more casualties. To stand there and think of the fierce battle that was waged there was moving. The Trolley stopped at the USS Constitution, the worlds oldest floating commissioned war vessel.
Several travellers ate together in a restaurant that was an exact replica of the "Cheers" bar. We expected Norm to come over and have a cold one.
Edgerton's arranged a great dinner at McCormick and Schmicks and then terrific tickets to the hilarious play "Shear Madness." Edgerton's travellers took part in figuring out "whodunit." Ron Schramm, one of our travellers from St. Joseph, MI, asked the actors a lot of questions during the play to try to figure it out. We all laughed so hard at the funny lines. The play was terrific, and was within walking distance of the Hotel Edgerton's had arranged downtown.
The time in Boston also included a visit to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. It was first rate. That was the first Presidential Museum I had ever visited. It is located on the water looking right at downtown Boston.
Then there was a trip to Plymouth to see Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower 2, a replica of the Mayflower. There was a visit to the Forefather's Monument, the largest, solid granite monument in the United States. Travellers also got a private tour of the Jenny Grist Mill by a costumed miller.
From there it was on towards the sandy shores of Cape Cod. The time there included a day at the stunning island of Nantucket. There was a ferry ride over to see all the shops on the cobble stone streets and brick sidewalks downtown.
There was also a day in Provincetown and a whale watching excursion that was remarkable! Tom and Carol Sergeant were two of the travellers. The pictures below were taken by Tom!

Look how close travellers were to this whale below. Tom Sergeant was able to take this picture.

A day was spent in New Bedford visiting the Whaling Museum. New Bedford used to be the hub of whaling. Travellers saw the Seamen's Bethel (Whaleman's Chapel) made famous by Herman Melville's 'Moby Dick.' There was also a visit to the Rotch-Jones-Duff House and Garden Museum, a home built in 1834 on an entire city block.
One night featured a Lobster Dinner at a unique Hyannis eatery that was built into a ship that had crashed ashore years ago. It was yet another example of Edgerton's finding unique places to eat. The lobster was delicious!
Congratulations to the Edgerton's staff for building yet another special trip. Sherrill Lee managed it to perfection! The travellers loved getting to know each other along the way. I am such a big fan of group travel. So many of the travellers talked about the lack of stress and how much fun it was to be around everyone. Yet, there was plenty of free time as well.
